K-14

from €200.00

This artistic seascape, layered from photographs and structural textures, celebrates the stunning classic 12mR yacht Flica II (K-14) powering through the heavy swell on the Gulf of Finland.

Quote from the official 12mrworlds.com site (the International Twelve Metre Association's World Championship page):

"Designed by Laurent Giles to the 12mR Third Rule, Flica II (K-14) was among the last yachts to slide down the rails at the 140-year-old W. Fife & Son boatyard. Arguably Flica II (K-14) was the first 12mR built for the modern America’s Cup era. After some 'tuning-up' to serve as a trail horse for Sceptre (K-17) for the 1958 America’s Cup—the first sailed in 12mRs—she won the 12mR Class at Cowes Week in 1958 and the Royal Thames Yacht Club Queen’s Cup in 1961."

Flica II is a true thoroughbred: launched in 1939 as the final build from the legendary Scottish yard after 140 years, she was created with America’s Cup ambitions in mind (though she ended up as a trial horse rather than the challenger). She’s got those elegant, powerful lines, a long keel, and that timeless classic racer soul. In this piece, she’s shown powering through the weighty maining – those big, rolling waves typical of the Gulf of Finland – with sails full, spray flying, and pure drama on the water. It captures exactly why these old legends still steal the show in classic regattas today.
