I have always been interested in the way things look. It fascinates me how differently the same scene can appear when the conditions and viewpoints change. At its best, a photograph evokes a feeling in the viewer and tells a story.

The northern landscape speaks to me, and the sea has a very special pull. I spend time on the water pretty much from the moment the ice disappears until it returns. My favourite times of year are May and September–October. I also fish a lot, which works nicely with photography in terms of seasons and being out in nature.

The kind of photography I enjoy most is moving around at sea without watching the clock. The main thing is enjoying nature; the images and everything else happen along the way. Of course, there are also times when I photograph more deliberately, especially when the conditions are right for a subject that has been on my mind. Photographing the night sky is an art form of its own. It always requires a little more planning and precision to get right.

Alongside nature and landscape photography, I also enjoy all kinds of action photography, whether it is sports, boats or other fast-moving subjects.
