Pensar Båtvarf 1950
A traditional tar-scented, clinker-built (limisaumainen) wooden boat, in everyday speech called a “Puttare.” The name derives from the nostalgic puttering sound of the engine. The most typical engines are various types of Wikströms. These old workhorses of the archipelago are still encountered even today, and that´s a good thing. They remind us of the times when the sea sustained the archipelago, and when the world was not yet in such a hurry to get anywhere.
This boat was built by Pensar Båtvarf (Pensar Boatyard, Nauvo) in 1950. Even though the boat is reaching retirement age, there are no signs of decline. In good hands a skilfully crafted wooden boat will last from one generation to the next. The same cannot be said of modern boats.
